Indonesia’s Market Transparency Enters a New Phase

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) will soon implement a major transparency update: the release of broker codes and investor domicile data after the first trading session each day. This move, announced by Irvan Susandy, Director of Trading and Member Regulation at IDX, is expected to increase visibility into daily market flows.

“This is still in preparation phase,” Irvan said. “The release will not be real-time, but after the break session of the first trading phase.”

Investor Insight vs. Market Emotion

Analysts, such as Valdy Kurniawan from Phintraco Sekuritas, believe this change will be widely used by market participants, especially those monitoring foreign net buy/sell flows.

However, there’s a caveat: the risk of overreaction.

“Large net sells by foreign investors could trigger panic selling if not interpreted properly,” Valdy warned.

This tension between transparency and potential irrational behavior highlights the delicate balance regulators must strike.

What It Means for Foreign Investors

For global investors, access to post-session broker and domicile data offers a valuable window into market sentiment—without exposing IDX to the high-frequency manipulation risks of real-time disclosure.

SSA sees this as a positive step toward modernization and recommends investors:

  • Track foreign activity without chasing short-term noise

  • Avoid reacting emotionally to large sell-offs

  • Focus on medium-to-long-term investment themes

🧠 Conclusion

Greater transparency can empower smarter investing—but only if paired with discipline and context. As Indonesia’s capital markets evolve, so too must investor strategies.
