Gold is back in the spotlight!

After facing pressure in recent months, gold prices have rebounded sharply. The weakening U.S. dollar has made the precious metal increasingly attractive to global investors.

At the start of the week, spot gold traded around US$4,400 per troy ounce, after gaining approximately 9% in August.

One of the main drivers has been the U.S. dollar falling to its lowest level in more than two months. Since gold is priced in dollars, a weaker U.S. currency makes the metal relatively cheaper for investors holding other currencies.

Meanwhile, weaker U.S. economic data has prompted markets to scale back expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike. The probability of a September rate increase has fallen to around 33%, compared with 51.2% a month earlier.

However, investors should remain cautious. Gold has faced renewed pressure from rising U.S. Treasury yields and higher oil prices. Markets are now closely watching the Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes for further clues about the direction of monetary policy.

Do you think gold’s rally will continue and push prices back toward record highs?
