Indonesia’s largest automotive exhibition, the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025, once again became a magnet for automotive enthusiasts. Beyond showcasing the latest innovations and technologies, the event also had a positive impact on domestic car sales. The latest data shows an increase in sales for July 2025, although yearly figures remain under pressure.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), wholesale distribution — from factories to dealers — in July 2025 reached 60,552 units, marking a 4.8% increase compared to June 2025, which recorded 57,799 units.
Retail sales — from dealers to consumers — also posted a slight 1.8% increase to 62,770 units, up from 61,687 units in the previous month.
Gaikindo’s First Chairman, Jongkie Sugiarto, acknowledged that GIIAS 2025 contributed to stimulating consumer purchasing power.
“There’s been a noticeable boost in purchasing power and vehicle sales from GIIAS 2025. Hopefully, this positive trend will continue through the end of the year,” he said.
However, on a year-on-year (yoy) basis, July 2025 sales still show a significant drop. Wholesales fell 18.4% from 74,230 units, while retail sales dropped 17% from 75,588 units.
Cumulatively, from January to July 2025, wholesales totaled 435,390 units, down 10.1% from the same period last year. Retail sales reached 453,278 units, a decline of 10.8%. As of now, Gaikindo has not revised its target for this year’s four-wheeled vehicle sales, which remains set at 900,000 units.
